17.04.2013, 20:00 hrs

Unequal social, political, and economic relations in the city of Rotterdam are central to the final symposium of the exhibition Asymmetry by Castro and Ólafsson, and curated by Adam Budak. Hein Klemann (Professor of Social and Economic History at the Erasmus University Rotterdam), Sonja Lavaert (Professor of Philosophy at the Free University of Brussels) and Gwen van Eijk (urban sociologist and criminologist at the University of Leiden) shed light on their individual perspectives from which an audience discussion will follow. Chris van der Meulen (Vers Beton) shall lead the discussion.

Chapter Two: ASYMMETRY IN A PASSAGE

Adam Budak
13 Mar 2013 – 13 Mar 2013
TENT Rotterdam

Wed 13.03.2013, 20:00 u/h

With Anna Tilroe, Pascal Gielen, Adam Budak, Libia Castro & Ólafur Ólafsson
Chapter Two: Asymmetry in a Passage is the second part of the three-part symposium to accompany Castro and Ólafsson’s exhibition Asymmetry and includes a lecture by Pascal Gielen, professor of art sociology at the University of Groningen, followed by a discussion with art critic Anna Tilroe and the artists. Pascal Gielen will give a lecture on the way Post-Fordism and neoliberalism exploits artists and creative systems. He will address the relationship between large institutes such as biennales, immaterial labour, globalization, and artistic freedom. Art critic and curator Anna Tilroe talks with the artists about the concept of emancipation in their works, which are often based on their ideas about social inequality and the asymmetry of society. The curator of the exhibition, Adam Budak, shall moderate the evening.

Nothing Succeeds Like Success,
And Nothing Survives Like Survival

Eröffnung Mi. 5. September 19 Uhr

OZEAN-Schleiermacherstrasse 31, 10961 Berlin

Tou Camp KUNSTHALL SHOWCASES

01 Jun 2012 – 30 Jun 2012
Galleri Opdahl, Stavanger Kunstmuseum,Reed Projects, i/o/lab, Prosjektrom Normanns

Galleri Opdahl Stavanger is pleased to present a large scale wall drawing by Per Dybvig, at Tou Camp. In 2009/2010 the artist started to transfer his drawings into film with the animation "Hunter Hare Dog". Similarly, his most recent film – "Around the House or in the Bar, at least" – makes reference to Georg Pencz’s print work, "The Hunter Caught by the Hares" , (1534-35). The animation has amongst other been part of Art I 42 I Basel Film / Animated World ( Hunter Hare Dog) and Recontres internationales - Madrid, Paris, Berlin in 2011 and 2012. The animations takes up the comical-abysmal story of the hunter and his dogs, but also references Norwegian fairy tales.

At Tou Camp, the characters has left the animated world and creeps out onto the walls and ceiling in one of the massive concrete halls at the old Tou Brewery. Integrating the existing pipes, the scarred concrete and remains of technical equipment, Dybvig acts out a kind of fairy -tale in which the animals take on human qualities - and we step into a comedic cosmos of bizarre figures and creatures.
